QUESTIONS:
1) Have you ever been on a mission trip before, and what made you decide
to go to Romania?
2) Write very briefly about your experience working as a team with other
Trinity members putting together a VBS program - what was it like, and
did it help you to better understand what it means to be part of the "body
of Christ"?
3) What was your favorite part of the trip? Least favorite part?
4) (Optional) Did you feel especially connected to God in any way during
this trip? If so, how, and why do you think that may have happened?
- I had been on many mission trips prior to going to Romania. During
college, I was very active in an outreach/missions organization at
Westmont College called Potter's Clay. We visited Mexico regularly
and worked with the people and churches of Ensenada. I have continued
to love missions as I have attended the deputations to both Mexico
and ADDORE as a couselor with Trinity's High School group. When I
first heard about the trip to Romania, I was very excited and simply
knew that it was something I needed to be a part of.
- It was great to see the way that each member of our team was able
to serve in ways in which they were truly gifted. Our music team was
phenomenal, our craft team was exceptionally well organized, and everyone
else seemed to serve everywhere that was needed. Not only did we work
as a team of Trinity members, but we also worked with the World Vision
staff. Our goal was to work as one united group despite the language
barrier and cultural differences. At times, this was difficult - but
important to find new avenues of communication.
- It is nearly impossible to choose just one favorite thing about
Romania. I loved visiting the World Vision project sites and seeing
the tangible ways in which World Vision is transforming the country.
I especially enjoyed visiting the small village of Crit where we toured
the beginning of a WV dairy farm. It was situated in the countryside,
with rolling green hills, grazing horses, endless forests. I also
loved learning about the recent history fo Romania and seeing firsthand
the devastation caused by the communist regime. There is so much damage
that now must be undone and I am inspired by the people we met who
work daily to bring about change to the country they love.
- I felt that God really spoke to our team about the importance of
building relationships. When we first began our VBS program, we tried
very hard to stick to our schedule and our curriculum. We quickly
realized that God had other plans for us (as HE usually does!). Throughout
the week, it became increasingly clear that the Romanian people were
much more concerend with relationship building than withflawless scheduling.
This proved to be a good lesson for all of us - clearly this was Jesus'
passion here on earth as well.
